Core Classes #3 & 4 "JtE Journey through Egypt" Intensive Series - on-site in Egypt.

JtE-3 & JtE-4 Consecutive Tours

Readied from our work in JtE-1 and JtE-2 we continue our quest, learning and experiencing movement and culture taught to us by a variety of indigenous peoples.  JtE-3: Cairo includes: dance classes, Dance Ethnology training in Cairo and Giza, historical sites, interviews with people in the know and personal attention to the development of your own personal fieldwork. JtE-4: Upper Egypt includes: Ghawazee, Saidi, & Nubian dance classes, Dance Ethnology training in Upper Egypt, with tours in Luxor, Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Aswan, Philea Island, Nubian Village, interviews with people in the know, observing Nubian and Saidi culture, culminating in a graduation performance with live Nubian musicians.

70-Hour Intensive More than 70 hours of instruction in 16 days.

We begin our Study-Tour the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx directly outside our classroom window, we continue our dance tradition coursework, concentrating on the dances, ritual and cultures we will be visiting: dancing to live Egyptian musicians, viewing Tanura and Zeffah first-hand, meeting Mohammed Ali Street Awalem and musicians, Upper Egyptian Ghawazee, Nubian people of Aswan,  we talk to and enjoy people we have only read about…

We live the real Egypt: While learning anthropological observation techniques, we interview and observe local people, gaining insight into the culture in which these dances emerge.

The real Egypt is filled with vibrant people and colorful dance!

The real Egypt is not just the inside of the 5-star hotels,

not just a bus rushing to take us to artifacts behind glass.

Includes study materials, lodging at (Cairo) Sphinx Guesthouse, (Luxor) Sheraton Luxor and (Aswan) Basma half-board, all stated tours, performances and instruction.  Does not include airfare to and from Egypt, nor passport fees.

Certificate upon completion.

Class/Tour JtE-3 is open to those who have graduated from pre-requisite JtE-1 & JtE-2.  Pre-requisites for JtE-4 are JtE-1, JtE-2 & JtE-3.
